Online ping test

Measure how quickly a website or server responds. We connect to it four times from our server and show each time, the average and any loss.

How this ping test works

The classic ping command sends ICMP echo packets, which many servers and firewalls now block. This tool measures a TCP ping instead: the time it takes to open a connection to the server's web port (443). That is the same delay a browser waits for before a page starts loading, and it works even where ICMP is blocked. The times are measured from our server, so they show how fast the server responds, not the speed of your own connection.

How to use it

  1. Enter a website or server address.
  2. Press Ping.
  3. Compare the four replies: steady low times are good; timeouts or big jumps point to a problem.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good ping time?

Under 50 ms is excellent, 50–150 ms is fine for browsing, and above 200 ms feels slow. Distance matters: a server on another continent can't answer in less than about 100 ms.

Why does the ping time out?

The server may be offline, a firewall may be blocking connections, or the server may not accept connections on port 443. Use the website status checker to test the site itself.

How do I test the ping of my own connection?

Use our internet speed test: it measures the ping between your device and the nearest test server, plus your download and upload speed.
